FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS EIGHT KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS, FEBRUARY 29 - MARCH 2, 2008

COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people being killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, February 29, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 2, at midnight.

As of March 2, 2008, 147 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 145 in 2007. Of the 75 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2008, 52 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight March 2, 2008, ten motorcyclists, two bicyclists and twelve pedestrians have died on state roads and highways. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
