COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety
(SCDPS) recognized numerous law enforcement officers and agencies today for
their efforts to rid South Carolina roadways of drunken drivers. The keynote
speaker for the 2008 DUI Enforcement Recognition Ceremony was 7th
Circuit Solicitor Trey Gowdy. The event, held at Seawell’s in Columbia, drew
more than 200 law enforcement officials and highway safety advocates from across
the state.
Law enforcement categories and award winners follow:
Officer of the Year (five categories based on size of
agency):

officers or less)

Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year: Trooper First
Class Wesley Hardymon, Troop 5 (Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry,
Marion, Marlboro and Williamsburg counties)

State Transport Police District of the Year:
District 3 (Anderson, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties)
South Carolina Law Enforcement Network Award: (Tie)
11th Circuit (Edgefield, Lexington, McCormick, Saluda counties) and
15th Circuit (Georgetown and Horry counties)

accomplishments in 2008.
