The Juvenile Accountability Block Grant program is intended to
promote greater accountability within the juvenile justice system. For
the upcoming 2006 award cycle, approximately $900,000 is available for
award. Federal guidelines require 75 percent of this amount to be passed
through to units of local government but allow states to request a
waiver of this requirement. Units of local government eligible for a
predetermined direct allocation will be individually notified and
provided with information and a special application. State agencies,
local units of government, and private nonprofit agencies are eligible
to apply for funds. The new Request for Proposal (RFP) is now available
online. Applications are due December 19, 2007, and the grant period
will be April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009.
